HAPM Consultants Sdn. Bhd. was never just about projects—it was about trust, precision, and steady execution. What began decades ago as Hasmi & Associates became one of Malaysia’s respected consultancy firms, delivering critical infrastructure, commercial, and hospital developments across the country.
But behind the company’s long-standing legacy is a story of transformation—driven by a leader who never set out to be at the front.
“I didn’t grow up dreaming of being a Managing Director. I just focused on doing the work—until I realised the work needed a leader.”
That leader was Sr Hjh Saidatul Kesuma Dewi Ismail, a trained quantity surveyor and project manager who had built her career executing complex builds, including the Telekom Tower. By 2004, she began stepping into leadership. By 2007, she was officially appointed as Managing Director.
Leading in a male-dominated field wasn’t her agenda—it was her reality. But instead of fighting for attention, she let the results speak. She led with discipline, nurtured technical talent, and kept clients coming back through reliability and delivery. Under her direction, HAPM Consultants became a quiet force in project management consultancy—especially in healthcare infrastructure, where long-term planning and cost clarity were essential.
By 2020, the business was stable. But Sr Dewi began to look deeper:
What would happen if she stepped away? Could the business outlive her involvement?
This question sparked a strategic shift. She joined the Titanium Program under RichWorks Consulting Group (RCG) not to fix something broken—but to evolve from operational leadership to legacy leadership.
Through structured mentorship, she began:
- Introducing clear KPIs for every department
- Implementing real-time dashboards for project and financial tracking
- Building a second line of leadership to reduce reliance on her personally
- Reframing the company’s value not just as implementers—but as strategic partners for long-term developments
“We stopped thinking only in project terms. We started thinking in business terms—what must exist for this firm to outlast me?”
This mindset shift changed how HAPM operated—and how it grew. The company recorded steady year-on-year improvements, with an 11.3% revenue increase in 2022, followed by 2.5% in 2023, and 2.4% in 2024. These weren’t massive spikes, but they reflected strategic, sustainable expansion—driven by margin improvements, streamlined team structures, and better client lifecycle value.
Rather than chasing large-scale expansion, Sr Dewi doubled down on selective scaling, intelligent resourcing, and cultural alignment. Her team became leaner, clearer in purpose, and more empowered to lead. Clients noticed the difference—and so did the industry.
For Sr Dewi, HAPM Consultants is not just a company—it’s a legacy platform. It proves that quiet, consistent leadership—combined with strategic action—can redefine what success looks like in the construction consulting world.
“We don’t need to be loud to be impactful. We just need to be clear in our values, structured in our approach, and intentional in how we grow.”
