Family Veterinary: Building a Business with Heart, Structure, and Purpose

For Dr. Juliyana Abu Sari, becoming a veterinarian wasn’t just a career—it was a calling. From her early days in veterinary school to launching her first clinic in 2014, her mission was clear: give animals, especially cats, a place where they could heal with dignity and love.

“I started with compassion, not capital. I could treat sick animals with care—but when it came to running a business, I was in unfamiliar territory.”

In the early years, her small clinic in Johor Bahru began to attract more clients through word of mouth and trust. That growth, however, came with new challenges. Managing staff, overheads, and business operations was a constant struggle. Financial pressure mounted. There were times when she wasn’t sure if she could cover salaries. Despite opening new branches, each one felt disconnected—different names, different systems, no standardisation.

From the outside, it looked like success. On the inside, it felt like chaos.

The turning point came in 2019 when Dr. Juliyana joined The Titan Program under RichWorks Consulting Group (RCG). That decision changed how she saw herself—not just as a veterinarian, but as a business leader with the responsibility to shape a team and a legacy.

Under RCG’s mentorship, she initiated a full rebrand—Family Veterinary became the unifying identity for all branches. She introduced clear SOPs, real-time dashboards, and structured reviews. This brought operational consistency and transparency, allowing her team to take ownership of daily execution while she focused on strategy and leadership.

“Before this, I was running from one clinic to another, fixing problems. Now, I build systems that solve problems before they start.”

The impact was transformative—not just in terms of branch expansion, but in how the business ran. Instead of relying on her constant presence, her team began to lead independently, with clear KPIs and shared values. Clients noticed the difference—better service, better care, and more trust.

Today, Family Veterinary operates 10 branches across Johor and Melaka, each aligned under one cohesive brand and vision. The clinics are no longer just places for treatment—they are a testament to how compassion, when matched with clarity and structure, can become a scalable force for good.

Dr. Juliyana still considers herself a vet first. But now, she leads as both a healer and a builder—someone who’s proving that purpose and professionalism can go hand in hand.

“You don’t have to lose your heart to build something big. You just need the right guidance, the right systems, and the courage to grow into the leader your business needs.”
